Lexus x AMBUSH: The Future Classic Club
Culture is obsessed with what’s next. Trends move faster. Hype cycles get shorter. And there’s always something new waiting to replace whatever just arrived.
But some things stick around.
Longevity has its own kind of cultural currency.
For 25 years, the Lexus IS has evolved through changes in culture, taste and technology without losing what made it distinctive. So rather than simply celebrate its past, we partnered with Tokyo design house AMBUSH to explore what gives great design staying power.
The result was The Future Classic Club, a collective celebrating the people, objects and ideas built to outlast the moment.
AMBUSH translated the IS into a limited capsule collection, pulling from its materials, signature interior color and even its chassis certification plates. For the film, we went back to the early-2000s Tokyo world the IS emerged into, casting today’s cultural makers as the original members of the Club. Working late. Sketching. Refining. Obsessing over what comes next.
Don’t chase the moment. Make something the moment can’t exhaust.
The Future Classic Club launched during New York Fashion Week across film and social, followed by the collection drop and an immersive event with PAPER bringing together creatives across fashion, music and the arts.
As Team One ECD Amanda Abrams put it, “What we loved about Yoon’s vision is that a future classic doesn’t come from trying to predict the future. It comes from knowing what’s worth carrying forward, then making it unmistakably your own.”
Relevance doesn’t always require reinvention. The things that endure evolve while remaining unmistakably themselves.
Because the best design doesn’t chase what’s next. It creates something worth carrying forward.
The collection was debuted to a select group of forward-thinking culture makers at a party hosted by PAPER Magazine during New York Fashion Week - the inaugural meeting of the Future Classic Club.
